MAME Programmers Make History
A.P. -- M.A.M.E. (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) creators debuted their latest works today; the long-awaited addition of Atari classics "Hard Drivin'" and "STUN Runners". They also bowed the specifications for the games, making history with the world's first "Simply Ridiculous" system requirements. A 2 GHz computer, which will not be publicly available for a year, is the recommended processor.
"Obviously, success of 37b5 has gone straight to the developers' heads.", says noted emu-expert TonyD [aka DynoT]. "After getting away with demanding a 1 GHz CPU for Mortal Kombat 3 (a difficult, yet feasible task), they clearly went mad with power and started making impossible demands upon the emulation community."
Nicola Salmonella
defended himself with some brief comments: "Sure, games like Hard
Drivin' have been available for DOS for the last 15 years, and are known
to run on a 386 with 2 MB RAM, but what is the fun in that? The goal
of MAME is to provide the most accurate simulation.... of someone spending
too much money on computer upgrades! heh... And if you think
that's funny, wait 'til you see the next beta. We're planning to
make the Pac-Man driver slightly more accurate, thus requiring an SGI workstation
for full framerate!"
